Digi Postpaid, now with up to 30 GB of monthly data

The new Digi Postpaid 2016

Digi Postpaid plans are not the most straightforward of plans when compared to the competition; there are 12 different Digi Postpaid tiers at launch, split between ‘More Internet’ and ‘More Calls & SMS’. Now, it’s about to get a little bit more convoluted, but in a good way, as three of the most expensive plans (Digi Postpaid 128 and 218 under ‘More Calls & SMS’, as well as Digi Postpaid 238 under ‘More Internet’) received a major internet quota boost — up to 30 GB/month.

First off, let’s clarify a bit on the names for the two ‘More Calls & SMS’ plans. When they were first launched a couple of months ago, they were called Digi Postpaid 148 and Digi Postpaid 238 respectively. However, Digi is offering a promotional price of RM128/month and RM218/month for each respective plan, hence the carrier is now identifying them as Digi Postpaid 128 and Digi Postpaid 218, which is actually not a bad idea, to avoid confusing us with the other Digi Postpaid 238 that comes with ‘More Internet’.

To summarize this data upgrade into just a few lines of bullet points, here are the only changes:

  • Digi Postpaid 148 128 ‘More Calls & SMS’ (RM128/month): 9 GB —> 10 GB
  • Digi Postpaid 238 218 ‘More Calls & SMS’ (RM218/month): 13 GB —> 25 GB
  • Digi Postpaid 238 ‘More Internet’ (RM238/month): 20 GB —> 30 GB

Everything else remains the same as previously covered. Those that are getting unlimited calls still do, and those without still have the same amount of allocated voice minutes and SMS. The three plans above retain their monthly commitment, data rollover, plus the same perks all Digi Postpaid plans have been enjoying for a couple of months now, including unlimited WhatsApp and WeChat usages, 100 GB of Capture cloud storage, Digi Music Freedom, 12-month iflix access, et cetera. However, do note that Digi Postpaid 128 and 218 are still on their promotional prices, and limited-time offer could end as soon as on June 30th 2016, after which the prices may go back up to RM148/month and RM238/month respectively.

A few months ago after the carrier revamped its postpaid plans, with options for unlimited calls, unlimited SMS, or monthly data quota up to 20 GB, Digi also added a halfway tier — Digi Postpaid 80 — where for just RM2/month more than Digi Postpaid 78, you’ll get additional 3 GB weekend data on top of the 7 GB allocated. There was a RM10 top-up offer for an additional 8 GB for Digi Postpaid 98 and above, that was supposed to end on April 17th, but it seems to still be available. Taking cues from the competition, besides data rollover, recently Digi also introduced its internet sharing option for up to six lines. And now with the 30 GB option, it looks like there’s something for everyone at Digi.

In related news, for a limited time until May 31st 2016, Digi is giving 50% more quota and unlimited off-peak data for RM30, RM38, RM48, RM68, and RM88 monthly Digi Prepaid internet subscriptions. Another monthly and three other weekly Digi Prepaid internet subscriptions also get more data, but not as much as the five mentioned. The current limited-time offer succeeds the previous one which ended on April 22nd.

The nine prepaid plans getting the limited-time perks include three weekly (RM7, RM10, RM15) and six monthly (RM20, RM30, RM38, RM48, RM68, and RM88) plans. The RM7, RM10, RM15, and RM20 plans get additional internet quota between 50 MB and 200 MB. For the same plans, their data for off-peak hours range from 300 MB to 1 GB. All nine plans also get to enjoy Facebook or YouTube data allocations if enabled, but only plans of RM30 and above get the optional 500 MB 4G LTE data allocation.

Notice the multiple “or’s” between each column/row in the tables above? Besides the limited-time offer, that’s the biggest caveat. Subscribers cannot enjoy all of the free offers, but instead have to pick one. Also, the perk has to be redeemed within three days after subscribing to the plan (or after it auto-renews). Redemption has to be done with a separate USSD code which is *888*2#.

Apparently the “unlimited” off-peak hours usage is not really unlimited but has a Fair Usage Policy cap at around 35 GB. Other fine print includes the fact that the YouTube quota is also applicable for Dailymotion, Tonton, and Viki.
