Update (October 22nd): Both DiGi and Maxis have gotten back to us stating that the release will be pushed a day earlier, to be November 6th, 2014.
It’s a good thing that the iPhone launch in Malaysia is getting earlier, but then again it fluctuates by the year. The iPhone 5’s launch happened on December 14th, 2012, while the iPhone 5s/5c’s local release got promoted to the third tier which took place on October 31st, 2013. It has been confirmed now that Malaysia will be getting the brand-spanking new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on November 7th 6th, 2014.
Besides the ability for you to drop by a local Apple Authorized Resellers to purchase an iPhone on that date, we can count on our big three carriers — DiGi, Celcom, and Maxis — to carry this device at launch day too.
DiGi has already put up a ‘registration of interest’ (RoI) page for both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Again, the release date has been confirmed to be November 7th 6th, but we could pre-order for one from DiGi as early as October 31st, at www.digi.com.my/iphone.
Update (10:45pm): Maxis has set up a “precheck” site for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Maxis emailed us shortly after to corroborate this. The availability date remains to be Friday, November 7th 6th, but Maxis went a step further to actually accept pre-purchases of the new iPhones on Friday, October 31st itself, over at store.maxis.com.my. There is a possibility DiGi will also take your monies on that date, but Maxis seems to word it a bit clearer.
Not wanting to be left out of the party, Celcom also teased that its bundling of the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus is “coming soon” but no other details as to when, not to mention zero ‘call to action’ forms, like DiGi’s RoI page, for instance.
U Mobile will definitely get the iPhone 6 / 6 Plus too in the near future, but there is no indication as to when just yet.
At least we’re settled with the dates now. Looking forward to the official pricing from these guys, not to mention the recommended retail prices to buy them outright. What’s your prediction?
