U Mobile Hero Plus-1

Earlier today, U Mobile announced an “enhanced” Hero postpaid plan called U Mobile Hero Plus. It is not exactly a plan on its own, but rather an extension to its Hero P70 plan. P70 offers 7GB of monthly data plus unlimited calls to all networks (no free SMS though), and Hero Plus lets you sign-up for supplementary member lines using the Share 50 plan, at an additional RM50 per month, on top of the RM70 per month you’re paying for P70.

You can sign-up up to 3 additional member lines, each at RM50 per month as mentioned. Each Share 50 will give you unlimited calls to all networks, and an additional 3GB of data per month each. The best part about Hero Plus is that the data is shareable between all lines with no restrictions. Let’s say you have two Hero Plus lines; that’s 7GB (from P70) plus 3GB (from Share 50), making it a total of 10GB for RM120 per month. Since there’s no restriction, you could be a heavy user gobbling up 9GB, while the secondary line has 1GB left. On the second month, perhaps the user on the secondary line uses 2GB, which will still leave you with 8GB.

The way U Mobile is selling this is that it has the “lowest price per line”. If you have the principal P70 line with one Share 50 line, that works out to only be RM60 per line, for 10GB of data. Even if you were to max out the 3 member lines, you’ll be paying RM220 (RM55 each), for a total of 16GB data per month, shared between 4 lines.

Here is the table by U Mobile, comparing its 2-line Hero Plus with competing telcos:

The Share 50 member line is also available for i90 and i130 plans for the iPhone. Not limited to just P70, there are also member line perks for both P50 (called Member 10), and U28 (called U10). Previously for P50, you can pay an additional RM10 for a secondary number, with pay-per-call rates, but the new Member 10 for P50 lets you share the free voice minutes from the principal line, on top of the usual data sharing. Also, previously U28 doesn’t allow a supplementary line, but it does now with the U10 member line. The principal U28 can’t share its data with U10, but U10 seems to have the same, free 300 SMS allocation as the principal line.

U Mobile Power Prepaid

Meanwhile, U Mobile also wants to remind you that its Power Prepaid plan, that gives you high-speed 1GB free every month (as long as the line is active), also has 2GB of free basic internet allocated for it monthly. The free basic internet is throttled at just around 64kbps, but even then, competing telcos are only offering 500MB for that. U Mobile claims its free 2GB 64kbps internet is the most generous among them all.
